Weight Loss & African Americans
What's Inside
Weight Loss - Obesity is a risk factor for many diseases which disproportionately impact minority populations, including heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, and stroke. Adult African American women had age-adjusted obesity rates of 48.8 percent, compared to 30.7 percent for adult white women, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the period 1999-2002. African American girls and boys also had higher rates of overweight than white children in the same age groups.

(BlackDoctor.org) -- Take in fewer calories than you burn. That is the key to losing weight, or so we thought. Did you know that eating too few calories can actually backfire and sabotage your weight-loss efforts?

The most effective way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you expend, creating a calorie deficit. But if your calorie intake dips too low, your body could go into starvation mode. Your body will start to store fat because it thinks it is not going to get any more food. You will

Maximize Your Metabolism

(BlackDoctor.org) -- You probably don’t need a rocket scientist to explain to you why you are having a difficult time losing weight. Your metabolism slows with age. The average woman gains 1 1/2 pounds a year during her adult life – enough to pack on 40-plus pounds by her 50s, if she doesn't combat the roller coaster of hormones, muscle loss, and stress that conspires to slow her fat-burning engine. But midlife weight gain isn't inevitable: We've found an exercise and diet plan that will
